McCormick Grill Mates: Memorial Day Weekend BBQ! #GrillMates #GrillAmbassador

To say I was doing the “happy dance” when I discovered I was selected as a Grill Ambassador for McCormick’s new Grill Mates line would be a major understatement. I was beyond thrilled and excited for the opportunity to represent a brand I have loved for years!

I anxiously waited for the party kit to arrive in the mail and started planning the menu right away. The box arrived in plenty of time to kick off grilling season Memorial Day weekend. I opened it to find the following Grill Mates products:

  • Slow & Low Memphis Pit BBQ Rub
  • Spiced Brandy & Herb Naturally Flavored Marinade
  • Molasses Bacon Seasoning
  • Montreal Steak Seasoning
  • Brown Sugar Bourbon BBQ Sauce

From the above list of five items, we decided to use three of them for the purpose of this report and added a fourth one during dinner (details to follow).

For the RIBS:

We chose to use the Slow & Low Memphis Pit BBQ Rub. Here are some “before and after” photos of the process as I followed the directions on the package.

My Thoughts on the RIBS

The instructions are extremely easy to follow. Overall, I was pleased with the taste of the ribs as well as the “crust”, but they were a little too dry. They also cooked a lot faster than expected. The package did say 2-3 hours. We told our guests the later time and, sure enough, the ribs were done and only one person had arrived. We put them in the oven to keep them warm and, well, they ended up slightly overcooked.

Another, thing about how I prepare meat for grilling, I typically like my ribs with sauce, the sloppier the better. I am glad I decided to use the rub because it was something I had never tried before this opportunity.

During dinner, I added some of the Brown Sugar Bourbon BBQ Sauce to my plate. OH. MY. GOSH!!! This product is a rub and sauce in one and I was immediately directed to BBQ Heaven. Delicious!!!

For the STEAKS:

We used the Montreal Steak Seasoning.

My Thoughts on the STEAKS

Two words: Absolutely SUPERB! This was, by far, the best steak I’ve ever eaten. I savored every single bite and was actually sad when it was gone. Seriously. Too bad I had to share with everyone else. Overall, the steaks were a huge hit with everyone!

For the BURGERS:

We used the Molasses Bacon Seasoning

Thoughts on the BURGERS

Honestly, I was so stuffed with everything else I had eaten I didn’t even get to try the burgers. But, I can say without a shadow of a doubt those who did have one, loved it.

More Pictures!!!

We served an “Italian Potato Salad”, a pasta salad, and some yummy Italian bread at the party. The weather cooperated, although it was a very warm 95 degrees. Any hotter and the Sun could have cooked our meal!
