Want To Know Wednesday: Raising Extra Special Kids!

Welcome to 20th Edition of "Want To Know Wednesday"! Each week, I will shine the spotlight on a business or blog! It will cover the basic 5 W's and 1 H! Let's get to know Raising Extra Special Kids!

WHO is the person behind the business? "I am a SAHM mother of three boys, all three that have special needs. I attended a few semesters at a college for architectural design before my pregnancy put me in hospital for weeks. I am currently trying to pursue furthering my education to become a teacher or early childhood education/special needs teacher. In the very little spare time I do have, I enjoy volunteering at our church in the childrens ministry or babysitting for everyone around me. I am always planning very creative things for kids at my home. Kids are my comfort zone. I love to see the joy in their eyes when building their minds with information!!! I enjoy helping people find resources for whatever it is they may need."

WHAT is the focus of your business? "It mainly centers around the tales of building our life around my 4 year old who is challenged with autism, since we really have to plan our daily life around him and his needs. You will also see content about my other children who have speech delays and various medical conditions. I also post links to special needs resources, positive parenting, child abuse prevention, awareness, recipes, crafts and links to freebies as well. I also have a Facebook page that coordinates with this."

WHERE do you business? "I blog from my home in Cincinnati, Ohio."

WHEN did you start your business and/or how much time do you devote to it? "I started my personal blog in the fall off 2011. I generally have a few hours during the day at naptime and at night after bedtime to dedicate to my blogging."

WHY did you start your business? "I was desperately seeking resources, ideas and support for my very overwhelming life. As many parents of special needs kids know, it's easy to become isolated in your life. There wasn't much support out there as to where to get started in our area. So I decided to start an outlet to share my concerns and hardships, where I soon found that there were millions out there going through the same thing I was. Then, I discovered that people in our greater area were having the same problem finding support resources and that I was able to help them with schedules, visual aids and much more."

HOW can people interested in learning more connect with you? "Other than the blog, I also have a Facebook page."
